Earlier this month, an accident at a Channelview refinery plant in Texas resulted in the death of one worker and the injury of another. According to MyFoxHouston.com, the industrial accident may have occurred while the workers were welding.

As anyone in this area of the country knows, plants dealing with crude oil or any petroleum products are particularly dangerous for workers. It seems as if catastrophic accidents of this nature make headlines nearly every week.

According to the MyFoxHouston.com report, a statement from Oiltanking Partners, L.P., says that no fire, environmental or health threat occurred and that a thorough investigation is underway.

Oiltanking Partners, L.P., is a growth-oriented, publicly traded, master limited partnership (MLP) engaged in the terminaling, storage and transportation of crude oil, refined petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas, according to the company’s website.

The company released a statement saying it was “saddened by this unfortunate accident, and our main focus right now is on the welfare of the injured worker and to the families of those two workers. We remain totally committed to the safe operation of our facilities and will provide additional information regarding the accident after the investigation is complete.”

When you work in the oil industry, you put your trust in your employer—that they will provide a safe work environment. When this doesn’t happen and tragedy strikes, the consequences can be life-altering.
